The Bicentennial Bikeways Plan is being updated as the Columbus Bike Plan with the latest best practices in the following categories:
- Bicycle Policies and Legislation
Perform an analysis of Columbus bicycle/pedestrian policies and legislation benchmarked against select agencies in Ohio and the United States. Based on the analysis, recommend next steps for Columbus where opportunities are found to improve policies. - Evaluation and Counts
Research best practices for bicycle/pedestrian counting programs, inventory existing local resources for leveraging opportunities, and recommend a strategy for creating and maintaining a comprehensive bicycle/pedestrian counting program in Columbus. Develop and implement a strategy based on best practice for evaluation of Columbus’ bikeways program for reporting to the community, media, and City administration.
2014 Columbus Bicycle and Pedestrian Counts Pilot Project Report - Education and Encouragement
Perform best practices research for comprehensive bicycle/pedestrian education and encouragement campaigns. The City conducted a survey of residents to help guide this effort. The online and in-person survey took place from April 4, 2014 through April 23, 2014 and had a total of 2,299 responses. Develop an education and encouragement communication plan based on best practices research and the market survey. - The Columbus Bike Plan will also show existing and soon to be implemented bicycle facilities. Long term bicycle network planning will take place with the Connect Columbus Project.
