DETAILS:
Buckling up is both effective and required by federal regulations; however, in Franklin County, 3 out of every 10 drivers of large trucks don’t use their seat belts. We are partnering with FedEx Ground and local truck drivers to encourage those who drive large trucks to always wear their seat belts. Tim Livingston, Ohio Truck Association Drive of the Year, will be sharing his personal story and passion for seat belts. State and local law enforcement agencies are also teaming up to crack down on motorists who are not buckling up. Seat belt use saves thousands of lives across America each year. In 2012 alone, seat belts saved an estimated 12,174 lives nationwide.

Seat belts remain the single most effective piece of protective equipment in vehicles today, yet 2 out of every 10 Franklin County residents do not regularly wear a seat belt. Regular safety belt use is the single most effective way to reduce fatalities in motor vehicle crashes.

Additional truck drivers will be on hand for interviews. A “no-zone” display will be set up to identify a large truck’s blind spots. Media will be allowed to sit in vehicles and trucks to visualize what each motorist can and cannot see.
