The Corridor of
Former Mayors is located on the
second floor of City Hall along both sides of the West Hall. The
corridor features pictures and biographies on mayors of Columbus.
Interesting Facts:
The first mayor, Jarvis Pike, was only
22 years old and had the Governor of Ohio arrested.
Long Street was named for Mayor
William Long (1827-1833).
The shortest mayor was the tenth
mayor, John Bailhache (1835), who was 5 feet tall.
Mayor Samuel L. Black (1897-1898)
later became a judge and was tough on abusive parents.
Mayor James A. Rhodes (1944-1952) was
later elected governor of Ohio.
Mayor M.E. Sensenbrenner (1954-59,
1964-71) held the office for 14 years.
