3rd Avenue between Edgehill Road and fire station
The city of
Columbus is continuing its initiative to improve the public infrastructure on
West 3rd Avenue between Olentangy River Road and Edgehill Road. The project
will facilitate traffic flow, improve safety and provide pedestrian and
bicyclist accommodations. Construction on the final phase began December 5,
2016, and the majority of work is scheduled to be completed by December 31,
2019, subject to weather conditions.
Landscaping to occur in the Spring of 2020.
Ongoing Work
as of November 6, 2019:
3rd Avenue
will remain closed until November 22nd when 2-way traffic will
resume. The shared use path and sidewalk, along with Rail Street will be
constructed once 3rd Avenue is open to 2-way traffic.

Primary
Detour: Westbound traffic
shall be detoured at Olentangy River Road North to W. Fifth Avenue, then west
to Northwest Boulevard, and finally south back to W. Third Avenue, OR
Olentangy River Road South to Goodale Boulevard, then West to Northwest
Boulevard, and finally north back to W. Third Avenue.
Secondary
Detour: Westbound traffic
shall be detoured at Olentangy River Road North to W. 5th Avenue,
then West to Edgehill Road, and finally south back to W. Third Avenue, OR
Olentangy River Road South to Goodale Boulevard, then west to Bobcat
Avenue, and finally north back to W. Third Avenue.
Improvements
include:
3rd Avenue, approximately 375 feet west and 400 feet east of the CSX railroad
bridge
Widen and reconstruct roadway
Construct a new two-span railroad bridge
Build curbs, Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb ramps (ADA),
sidewalks and shared-use path
Upgrade street lights, signs and underground cables for traffic signals
Plant street trees and landscaping
Rail Street
between 3rd Avenue and 300 feet south of 3rd Avenue
Construct new roadway
Build curbs, ADA curb ramps and sidewalks
Upgrade street lights and signs
Edgehill
Road& 3rd Avenue intersection (COMPLETED IN 2018)
Install new traffic signal
Build sidewalk, ADA curb ramps and bike path connections to Bobcat Avenue
Edgehill
