Columbus City Council, with the leadership of Councilmember Emmanuel V. Remy launched the Cleaner Columbus Employment Program on Monday, November 9, 2020.
The program offers homeless, unemployed, and underemployed residents temporary employment opportunities performing litter cleanups and neighborhood beautification.
“According to a July study on the impact of COVID-19 in major US cities, more than half of residents reported experiencing serious financial challenges, in addition to increased litter and debris in residential neighborhoods” said Councilmember Emmanuel V. Remy. “The Cleaner Columbus Employment Program will provide employment to local residents experiencing financial hardships due to COVID-19, while contributing to cleaner, healthier neighborhoods.”
Workers will be paid a minimum of $15 per hour and deployed in neighborhoods with the greatest occurrences of litter and debris.
The five agencies receiving the grant funds will prioritize enrolling residents who are experiencing homelessness, unemployment, or underemployment.
