At a time when collaborative governance is needed more than ever before, the Mayor, City Council, Columbus businesses, and community leaders, sought a solution to expedite the development of new businesses. Bringing public and private leaders to the table, Mayor Andrew Ginther and the Columbus City Council responded by creating the office of Small Business Concierge and this, the Small Business Builder.
The #1 reason for this position was that entrepreneurs wanted a single point-of-contact within the City, and the City needed an objective, in-the-trenches advocate for those entrepreneurs to identify and recommend regulatory changes if and when necessary.
As your Small Business Concierge, it is my goal to be your voice in City government. But I cannot be that voice if we do not listen to you. That requires for you to use my office–100% free of charge to you. We are here to be your switchboard to City departments, and to follow-up on your behalf if you encounter unnecessary resistance.
By listening to you, I can then assist your Council members in streamlining any processes that might damper, or worse, dissuade you from starting, or expanding, your business. Furthermore, you may not have the time or expertise to go from your dream business to a reality. But rest assured, my singular goal is to get you from point A to opening your doors for the first time and turning on your open sign.
From developing your business plan, connecting you with Department of Development resources, assisting with the Building and Zoning process, or simply seeing to it that any question you have is answered, we are here for you.
As a former journalist, and now a licensed attorney here in the great state of Ohio, I bring a wide variety of experience to the table. Before law school, I was an editor at Sports Illustrated, Condé Nast Portfolio, and Gourmet. I also interned at Time magazine and the Washington Post. My law school studies included Land Use and Zoning, Constitutional Law, Property Law, along with an extraordinary course in new models of collaborative governance. By and through each of these experiences, I learned that nothing is impossible if you have the will to do it!
If you ever have a question, comment, or concern, please feel free to contact me by email or (614) 645-1984.
To close, I am very excited to work with you to get your business off the ground and to help Build a Better City.
