Opening Your Restaurant Step Four: Seeking City Incentives and Funding

Congratulations, you have taken the first important steps to opening your own restaurant!

The City of Columbus has numerous location-based and/or employee-count incentives to offer businesses locating within city limits, and you just may qualify. While all business advisers would tell you it is more important to know how you are going to spend your valuable capital, rather than just having capital for its own sake, it is important that you start the process of requesting civic incentives early to ensure funding prior or just after you open your business.

Columbus also has numerous City-supported partners that can help provide business funding assistance. Here are links to various agencies and organizations that can help you connect with various capital resources.

•     City of Columbus Economic Development Financial Assistance
•     The Finance Fund
•     Community Capital Development Corporation

As previously noted, a finance plan is a critical part of a business plan. This financial plan should be detailed and provide you with a clear idea of your restaurant's financial needs. To received financial assistance, most, if not all, of these organizations require a detailed business plan to be submitted along with your application.
