What is Kick Sick

Kick Sick is a project of Columbus Public Health and Columbus City Schools joining together to see that children are protected from vaccine preventable illnesses.

By following the recommended vaccine schedule, children are more likely to stay healthy and in school.

Protect Them with All They Need

Children need all age-appropriate vaccinations to protect their health, and the health of their family and friends.

Parents should visit their family health provider or Columbus Public Health’s Immunization Clinic to make sure that their child is fully protected from vaccine preventable disease and has received all recommended shots. If you prefer to have your child vaccinated by your own healthcare provider, we encourage you to do so. Please provide your school nurse with a copy of your child’s updated vaccine record.

Vaccine Requirement for Students Entering 7th and 12th Grade

A new vaccine (shot) requirement has been added to protect the health of Ohio students entering the 7th and 12th grades starting with the 2016-2017 school year. Ohio Law (ORC 3313.671) now requires that all 7th grade students have both Tdap and meningococcal vaccine and that 12th graders have meningococcal vaccine.

Tdap vaccine helps protect against tetanus (lockjaw), diphtheria and pertussis (whooping cough). Meningococcal vaccine helps protect against meningitis, a deadly infection of the covering of the brain and spinal cord.
