Information Security & Big Data Forum Comes to Downtown Columbus

Improvement District Event will provide tips for consumers and businesses to
protect themselves online
[COLUMBUS-OH] Capital Crossroads Special Improvement
District (SID) has assembled a team of experts to illustrate how Columbus
businesses can protect their computer networks, digital files and enhance
security measures during the Capital Crossroads Information Security and Big
Data Forum on Wednesday, April 13, 2016, 8:30am, at the Chase Tower, 100 E.
Broad Street, 6th floor.
“This Capital Crossroads forum will provide some of the opportunities
and pitfalls connected with Big Data, which is a growth industry right here in
central Ohio. I am thrilled to provide opening remarks,” said Columbus City
Councilmember Michael Stinziano.
Both large Fortune 500 companies and small businesses are
faced with the threat of hackers or scammers lifting sensitive data and posing
security threats. Estimates from IBM indicate that businesses are attacked an
average of 16,856 times a year. That is 46 attacks every business has to deal
with every day — or nearly two attacks an hour.
“The necessity for Columbus area businesses to protect their
data safely and securely is essential in today’s digital economy,” Stinziano
continued.
Panelists include:
- Nicholas Hinsch, CEO of eVAL.
eVal specializes in Information Security and Networking solutions.
- Nicole
Walker, director of External Affair with AT&T. AT&T provides
consumer and business communications backed by innovative security and
customer support capabilities.
- Blair
Staud, vice president of Ohio Support Services. Ohio Support Services
provides commercial security programs and personnel to help prevent losses
and protect company assets.
- David
Wilson, attorney with Kegler Brown. Kegler Brown provides practical and
comprehensive legal and business solutions dealing with information
security and privacy law issues in business operations.
Capital Crossroads SID employs safety ambassadors,
special-duty police officers and a homeless outreach specialist. The SID
facilitates real-time communication with safety professionals throughout
downtown and offers a holistic approach to crime prevention. The goal of these efforts is to make downtown
a clean, safe and fun place to work, live and play.
