City to Resume Downtown Street Sweeping
The city of Columbus will resume overnight weekly street
sweeping in the Central Business District beginning pre-dawn Monday, April
3.
“We continue to work closely with downtown business
owners and residents to keep our streets clean and free of debris,” Department
of Public Service Director Jennifer L. Gallagher said. “Downtown is now
more alive than ever before with more activities, entertainment, housing and
businesses. We must all work together to keep litter and trash off our
streets.”
Downtown weekly street sweeping has been strictly enforced
for the past two years in an effort to allow street sweepers to adequately
clear litter and debris from the curb. Downtown residents, employees and
visitors are asked to park their vehicle on the posted side of the street on
Sunday and Monday nights before midnight to make room for street sweepers to
sweep along curbs. The weekly street sweeping schedule will be:
- Mondays, 12:01 a.m. – 6 a.m.: Sweeping on
the south sides of streets that run east-west and on the east sides of streets
that run north-south
- Tuesdays, 12:01 a.m. – 6 a.m.: Sweeping on
the north sides of streets that run east-west and on the west sides of streets
that run north-south
Also, NEW TO THIS YEAR, the area bounded
roughly by Broad Street on the North, Fulton Street on the South; I-71 on the East
and Grant Avenue on the West will be swept once per month on the
first Monday and Tuesday of each month, 12:01 a.m.-6 a.m.
Again, residents, motorists, employees and others are asked
to park their vehicle on the posted side of the street on
that Sunday and Monday nights before midnight to make room for street sweepers
to sweep along curbs.
Motorists are encouraged to look for all posted signage
before parking on the streets. No Stopping signs that include days and hours of
parking restrictions for street sweeping have been posted downtown.
Vehicles that are illegally parked during the restricted hours will be ticketed
and towed.
