New Online Tool Makes Checking Columbus’ Street Sweeping Schedule Easier
Columbus
residents can now access an online tool that provides its street sweeping
schedule. The new tool allows residents to enter their street address to find
out when street sweepers are next scheduled to visit their neighborhood.
Residents are encouraged to use the tool and provide feedback to help Columbus
improve the way street sweeping schedules are shared.
The tool, now available on the Department of Public Service
Web site at: www.columbus.gov/publicservice/streets/Street-Sweeping is
similar to the online tool the department uses to provide trash, yard-waste and
recycling collection dates.
When a resident enters their address into the tool, general
sweeping information and the next scheduled date for sweeping in their
neighborhood is displayed. Residents can use the tool to sign up for street
sweeping schedule reminder emails. Because the sweeping schedule can change due
to weather, equipment maintenance or emergencies, requiring street maintenance
personnel to be reassigned, residents are encouraged to use the tool to sign up for street sweeping email reminders or
double-check the tool when their sweeping date nears.
Columbus'
Division of Infrastructure Management crews sweep curbed public roadways,
including state routes within its boundaries, as needed. Removing dirt, litter
and debris from curbs prevents these materials from being washed by rain into
storm sewers.
The
City of Columbus encourages residents and business owners to move their parked
cars off streets before the posted or scheduled sweeping date to allow workers
room to clean the curb lanes of their street. In neighborhoods with permanent
signs that identify street sweeping parking restrictions, residents should
check the signs carefully because vehicles in a signed area that are not moved
on sweeping days will be towed and impounded at the owner’s expense. The
neighborhoods with permanent signs are Downtown, German Village, Harrison West,
Italian Village, Neil Avenue and Ohio State University off-campus area.
The city of Columbus Street Sweeping Program normally begins in April and
continues through November, weather permitting.
Residents can contact the City’s 311 Customer Service Center
at (614) 645-3111 or www.311.Columbus.gov for more information
about street sweeping.
