Art Walks and Landmark Talks Series Begins Today
Columbus
Public Health will partner again with the Columbus Landmarks Foundation for a
fifth year to offer Columbus Art Walks and Landmark Talks, a free series of
walking tours of Columbus neighborhoods. Funded by the Greater Columbus Arts
Commission, the series gives residents and visitors the opportunity to discover
art, history and architecture on guided walking tours with expert historians
and guides.
The lour-long
tours provide a new perspective of neighborhoods by transforming them into
positive, interactive spaces that encourage dialogue and enhance a sense of
pride and ownership of the area. Art Walks and Landmark Talks is also a great
opportunity to get an hour of physical activity while enjoying and exploring
Columbus’ beautiful neighborhoods.
“Physical
activity every day is important for a healthier life,” says Columbus Public
Health Commissioner Dr. Teresa Long. “The Art Walks and Landmark Talks series
gives residents and visitors another fun and innovative way to work an hour of
walking into their day while discovering all that our unique city neighborhoods
have to offer.”
The first
walk of the 2017 season will kick-off at 7 p.m. today at the Cultural Arts
Center in the River South district. Walkers will be introduced to the renovated
and expanded Scioto Mile and the beautiful new riverfront parkland and
greenways, including Bicentennial Park and its one-of-a-kind interactive
fountain.
Advance
registration for all walks is not required. Walkers can just show up at the
designated meeting location. If a regularly scheduled walk is cancelled due to
inclement weather, it will automatically be scheduled for the upcoming Sunday
at 7 p.m.
