S.R. 315 and City Streets

The City of Columbus, OhioHealth, and the Ohio Department of Transportation are collaborating on a series of public infrastructure projects that will improve vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian access within the North Broadway and Olentangy River Road corridors to accommodate current and future development opportunities in the area.

The project will be undertaken in multiple phases. Initial phases will include work on North Broadway east of Olentangy River Road, SR315 from the southbound exits (Exit 6) through the northern part of the curve, and a new roadway south of North Broadway at the SR315 NB entrance ramp. Remaining work to Olentangy River Road, Thomas Lane, and SR315 will following later in 2018/2019.

The planned improvements will enhance safety and operations on S.R. 315, associated entrance/exit ramps and City streets and will include:

  • Roadway pavement reconstruction, resurfacing and widening
  • New roadway construction
  • Upgrades to traffic signals, signage, and median modifications
  • Sidewalks, curbs, curb ramps and shared-use path
  • Street lights and trees
  • Additional improvements for safety and traffic movement

The City of Columbus hosted two open houses at OhioHealth’s Arthur G.H. Bing, MD, Cancer Center on May 22, 2017 to provide the public with a more detailed overview of the planned improvements.

On July 6, 2017, the City also presented an overview of the planned improvements at the Clintonville Area Commission meeting.

With the exception of the demolition of the northbound S.R. 315 exit ramp to eastbound North Broadway (previously ramp 6C), which was completed in 2017, the projects are in the final stages of design.

Public comments and suggestions are encouraged during the design phase.  Below you will find links to project descriptions and exhibits pertaining to the planned improvements.

Project Information and Upcoming Construction

Schedule
Design: Complete end of 2018
Construction: Late Spring 2018 through 2019

Maintenance of traffic during construction
For information regarding roadway closures and construction updates during construction please visit: http://www.pavingtheway.org/site/home.aspx

Lane closures will take place throughout construction, limited to non-peak hours whenever possible. Nighttime closures may occur on a limited basis.

Starting in July of 2018, work will begin to add additional capacity to the entrance ramp and intersection for southbound SR315 from W. North Broadway. This additional capacity is necessary to accommodate the full closure of the Olentangy River Road to SR315 southbound entrance ramp. This entrance ramp is expected to be closed from approximately July 2018 to late summer of 2019.

Starting in November of 2018, a new 6-lane alignment of SR315 will be installed that will temporarily carry traffic for both northbound and southbound SR315. This new alignment will start at approximately the overpass over Olentangy River Road and extend approximately up to the existing exit ramp to Thomas Lane. Upon completion of the project towards the end of 2019, the temporary alignment will be removed. The northbound and southbound traffic on SR315 will then revert back to the current alignment.

Closure dates and durations are subject to change based on the schedule of activities generated by the selected Contractor.
