Councilmembers Celebrate The Columbus Arts Festival
Columbus
City Council is proud to support The Columbus Arts Festival, June 9-11, along
the Scioto Riverfront and Bicentennial Park. The event kicks off this Friday at
11am.
The
Columbus Arts Festival, produced by the Greater Columbus Arts Council (GCAC),
is Central Ohio’s pinnacle arts event bringing visitors and exhibitors from
across the nation. This year, approximately 450,000 people are expected to
attend the Festival’s 300 local and national artists, six stages and dozens of
local food and beverage vendors.
“I
am pleased to welcome this year’s visiting artists and festival patrons,” said
Council President Pro Tem Priscilla Tyson. “I encourage everyone to
visit the Scioto Riverfront and experience the arts in action."
“Columbus
has a vibrant arts community cultivating creativity and expression across the
City,” said Councilmember Michael Stinziano. “The Arts Festival is an
immense point of pride for the City of Columbus.”
Council
President Pro Tem Tyson and Councilmember Stinziano serve as Council’s GCAC
Board Representatives.
Columbus
City Council supports GCAC throughout the year. The organization administers
nearly 97% of the City hotel/motel tax set aside for cultural services to
enrich the community. In 2016,
GCAC received an estimated $6,441,000 in City generated revenue.
A
catalyst for excellence and innovation, the Arts Council funds exemplary
artists and arts organizations. It also provides programs, events and services
of public value that educate and engage all audiences within our community.
