Women and children participating in the WIC Program can get coupons for free fresh fruits and vegetables worth $20. The Ohio Direction Card (EBT card) will also be accepted. SNAP dollars on the EBT card will be matched $1 for $1 up to $10.
The farmers markets support Columbus Public Health’s mission of protecting health and improving lives because many chronic health conditions – including diabetes, overweight and obesity – are related to poor nutrition. The farmers markets bring fresh produce directly to the Near East side neighborhood to remove barriers such as a lack of transportation or a grocery store.
Thousands of residents are expected to attend the markets which are now in their 13th year.
