Council Welcomes the Columbus Italian Festival
[COLUMBUS-OH]
The 38th Annual Columbus Italian Festival comes to town October 6-8 serving a
large helping of cold-pressed, Italian heritage. This is a weekend full of
great traditions including the enjoyment of fine Italian cuisine from local
vendors, tours of the historic St. John the Baptist Church, authentic music,
dance and a spirited parade through Italian Village.
“As
Columbus continues to grow, we gain the privilege of hosting impressive,
dynamic events and celebrations, such as this year’s Columbus Italian
Festival,” said Councilmember Michael Stinziano.
Admission
is $5. Children 12 and under are free.
This
year, in partnership with Greater Columbus Sister Cities International, the
Columbus Italian Festival will also host the regional semifinal of the World
Pesto Championship. The City’s regional winner will receive airfare and lodging
to Genoa, Italy to represent Columbus in the Genoa Pesto World Championship on
March 18, 2018.
“We
are thrilled to bring the regional semi-finals to Columbus,” said Tim Sword,
President of Greater Columbus Sister Cities International. "Thanks to
the long-standing sister city relationship between Columbus and Genoa, we are
able to bring this unique opportunity to our community."
“I
am so excited about the addition of the Pesto competition. It showcases our
place on the culinary stage,” said Council President Pro Tem Priscilla Tyson.
Tyson is
one of the judges for the Pesto competition.
Located
at Hamlet and E. Lincoln streets, between Summit and N. Fourth streets, the
Columbus Italian Festival celebrates Italian-American culture. Festival hours
are Friday 11am-5pm, Saturday 12-11pm and Sunday 11am-7pm.
