INFO:
A
flu shot is the best way to protect against seasonal influenza. It is
important to get one every year, even if you’ve gotten one in the past.
The
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends a flu shot for everyone
6-months-old and older. A shot is especially important for pregnant women
and anyone with a chronic disease such as diabetes, heart disease,
hypertension, asthma and pulmonary disease because they are at higher risk of
complications. People older than 65 years of age are also more susceptible to
serious complications from the flu.
Additionally,
household contacts and caregivers of babies who are too young to be vaccinated
or others who are at high risk of developing serious complications also should
be vaccinated to provide a “cocoon” of protection around vulnerable loved ones.
For
more information on influenza or where to get a flu shot, visit Columbus Public
Health at www.publichealth.columbus.gov or on Facebook/Twitter.
EDITOR’S
NOTE: Live
shots and interviews may take place while city leaders get vaccinated.
