Street Maintenance Assistant Manager
Manages all street maintenance operations at the north outpost
Division of Infrastructure Management
With the City since 1994
Q: What is a typical day like for you?
A: It starts off with the weather. The
weather dictates a lot of what we do. We have a lot of different activities. Of
course, in the spring we’re de-littering. We patch potholes 12 months a year.
In the spring we also have a mowing program and alley resurfacing. We have
street sweeping in the spring, summer and fall.
As we roll into winter, snow removal is a big part of what we do.
Another big duty in the winter is anti-icing, which is pretreating the roads to
prevent ice from adhering to the pavement.
Our operation is “can-do.” There is nothing you can’t call on us to do.
Q: How did you apply for your job? What was
the process?
A: I came to the city from the U.S. Air
Force. When I got out of the service, there was a program that assisted
veterans like me with obtaining city employment. I was fortunate to be able to
take part and here we are.
