Council Commission on Black Girls to Host Listening Sessions

[COLUMBUS-OH] The Commission on Black Girls is hosting listening sessions to hear directly from Black girls, parents, caregivers and service providers. The listening sessions will provide valuable input on the factors that impact the lives of Black girls in Columbus.

Columbus City Councilmember Priscilla Tyson sponsored Resolution 0208X-2018 to create the Commission on Black Girls, which was adopted by Council on Monday, July 16, 2018.

“To change the trajectory of the lives of black women, black girls must be given the resources and benefits to improve their quality of life and provide them with the tools to make good, long-term decisions,” Tyson said.

The work of the Commission will ultimately focus on two key questions:

  • What is the current quality of life for Black girls in your program?
  • What can the community do to improve the quality of life for Black girls?
