Mayor Andrew J. Ginther and the Department of Neighborhoods Launch the New Americans Leadership Academy

Mayor Andrew J. Ginther and the City of Columbus Department of Neighborhoods are pleased to announce the launch of the New American Leadership Academy (NALA).  The NALA is a first of its kind program in Columbus focused on the empowerment of emerging New American leaders.

“We are fortunate to have so many New Americans call Columbus home,” said Mayor Ginther. “To be America’s opportunity city, everyone must have a voice and the opportunity to be engaged.  The NALA is a critical next step to ensure everyone can contribute to our shared success.”

Through an intensive 11 week program, NALA participants will meet with local experts and gain firsthand experience in areas including local government, civic responsibility and community partnerships.  In addition, the class will complete a service project that will be focused on attending and participating with some of our area commissions.

“By creating a leadership academy specific to our New American community, we will make sure all our residents have a voice in the important issues facing our neighborhoods and they understand where they can turn for help with challenging issues,” said Carla Williams-Scott, Director of the Department of Neighborhoods.

Applications are now being accepted through September 18, 2018, for the first New Americans Leadership Academy. NALA applicants must be 18 years or older and have a high school diploma or equivalent. Additional information on the program and the official application are available at www.columbus.gov/NALA.  The first session of the NALA will be held on October 3, 2018.
