O’Shaughnessy Reservoir Water Levels to Be Impacted Due to Maintenance on Dam
The Columbus Department of Public Utilities will be performing maintenance on the O’Shaughnessy Dam to improve safety and the operational efficiency of the structure. Starting October 15, the level of the reservoir will begin to be lowered to allow crews to do their work. It is expected to take approximately a week to reach a safe working level of approximately 4 feet below normal. The water level will then stabilize at 3.5 feet lower than normal in early November and will continue to be low through early 2020. Water from the dam will be released throughout the duration of the project to keep the reservoir low enough to complete the work. Rainfall and river flows will likely have an impact on reservoir elevations and the schedule of this project.
During this project, boaters are encouraged to take extra precautions when docking, launching, and operating their vessels. In addition, the area directly downstream of the dam will be a construction area where fishing and public access will be prohibited.
