Kathy is a retired partner in the Vorys Columbus office where she was a member of the corporate and finance group. Kathy practiced law through her own private practice, Ransier & Ransier, for 26 years prior to joining Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP in 2001. As an attorney for almost 40 years, her areas of practice included transactional, commercial, real estate, business organization, non-profit and business development. From 1974 to 1976, Kathy was a securities attorney at the Ohio Department of Commerce Division of Securities, and served as special counsel for the Ohio Attorney General from 1976 to 1994. She served as special counsel to the Franklin County Probate Court from 1985 to 1990, and has been appointed to boards and commissions by The Supreme Court of Ohio.
Kathy has presented numerous continuing legal education seminars in real estate, women in law, and marketing including “Business Ethics and Pitfalls,” sponsored by the Columbus Bar Association, “Going Solo or Small Practice,” and “Marketing Opportunities for a Small Practice” sponsored by the Ohio State Bar Association. She has lectured at The Ohio State University College of Business and the Moritz College of Law and has presented seminars sponsored by the Columbus Minority Contractor/Business Assistance Program, the U.S. Small Business Administration and the New Directions Career Center.
Kathy received her J.D. from The Ohio State University Michael E. Moritz College of Law and her B.A. from Western College for Women.
Kathy’s honors and awards include Constance Baker Motley Award, NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, Inc.; Community Service Award and Professionalism Award, Columbus Bar Association; Robert M. Duncan Distinguished Leader Award, The John Mercer Langston Bar Association; Community Service Award, The Ohio State University and Western College for Women; Women of Achievement Award, YWCA; and Top Lawyers in Columbus from 2010 to 2012.
Kathy has always been very active in numerous professional, academic, cultural, social, community, economic development, and civic organizations. She has served on numerous boards for civic organizations, educational institutions and non-profits, including Huntington Bancshares Incorporated, Columbus Regional Airport Authority (former chair) and the Columbus Arts Endowment. She has previously served on a number of boards including the Franklin County Board of Mental Retardation & Developmental Disabilities (Chair), the Greater Columbus Arts Council (Chair), Women’s Fund of Central Ohio (Chair), Moritz College of Law, Dean’s National Advisory Council (Chair), Children’s Hospital Guidance Center, Creative Housing, Inc., Family Financial Foundation of Dollar Savings Bank, St. Vincent’s Children’s Center, State Savings Bank Community Advisory Council, The Ohio State University Alumnae Association and Western College Alumni Association (Chair), and the Supreme Court of Ohio Commission on Professionalism.
