Council Announces Process and Timeline to Fill Vacancies

[COLUMBUS, OH] Following the 2018 general election results, Columbus City Council is preparing to replace two members. Today, November 9, 2018, Council released the vacancy appointment process using the methodology defined by the City Charter. The anticipated changes are based on seats being vacated by President Pro Tem Michael Stinziano and Councilmember Jaiza Page who were elected to serve in other offices.

In the attached memo to City Councilmembers, President Shannon Hardin outlined the vacancy timeline and appointment process which includes a public hearing for each seat. Applications for both appointments will be accepted beginning Tuesday, November 13, 2018. Applicants must follow the parameters outlined in the memorandum including submitting eight copies of a resume and narrative of no more than 500 words describing the greatest challenges and opportunities facing Columbus. The applicant pool will be utilized for both vacancies pursuant to Columbus City Code Section 111.35(f).

The materials must be accepted and time-stamped by the office of the Columbus City Clerk, City Hall, 90 West Broad Street, Room 231, Columbus, OH 43215 by Monday, November 26, 2018, at noon.
