Joe Lucas
Construction Inspector
Division of Design & Construction
What made you want to work for the city of Columbus, Department of Public
Service?
I grew up in the
pavement business, which was a seasonal thing from March to Thanksgiving. I
knew at the time that my experiences in this field would be an asset to the
city of Columbus. I heard at the time that paving inspectors were needed and I
was very interested in a fulltime job over seasonal work. Once I applied,
they said: “You have 20 years in paving.” And here we go.
How did you apply for your job? What was the process?
I saw an
advertisement in the newspaper. I was invited for an interview before a panel
of supervisors here at the department. I took a simple test checking math
skills. I was offered the position immediately.
