Gunfire Detection System Now Live in the Linden Neighborhood
As part of the Comprehensive Neighborhood Safety Strategy, the gunfire detection system, ShotSpotter, is now live in the Linden neighborhood. ShotSpotter records gunfire and sends location information directly to police cruisers in the neighborhood. The system became live in the Hilltop earlier this month.
“Gunfire detection is already showing success in the Hilltop neighborhood. I am pleased to have this tool on board in Linden to help our law enforcement respond to incidents of gunfire, speed aid to victims, assist in investigations and the collection of evidence and, ultimately, the apprehension of dangerous offenders,” said Mayor Ginther.
Deputy Chief of Police Richard Bash encouraged residents to continue to call 911 to report gunfire. “We need the community to remain engaged. Part of the investigation of gunfire includes talking to residents.”
ShotSpotter technology is also being installed in the South Side neighborhoods in the coming weeks.
