Interim Changes to Short North Parking Plan Take Effect on Monday
Adjustments made to increase daytime
business parking demand, reduce guest pass rate
Effective
Monday, June 24, interim changes to the Short North Parking Plan begin in an
effort to increase daytime parking demand for businesses without impacting
neighborhood residential parking.
"The
Division of Parking Services is pleased that the plan, since full
implementation in February, has successfully created efficient, accessible and
sustainable parking that benefits Short North residents, businesses and
visitors," said Assistant Director Robert Ferrin.
"The plan
has created parking turnover to benefit users. It also allows us to be nimble
and responsive to the Short North community," Ferrin said. "As
pledged, Parking Services will continually review community feedback and use a
data-driven approach to make plan enhancements to better serve the
public."
The interim
changes result from feedback from Short North businesses and neighborhood
associations, including concerns that businesses were seeing fewer parking
demands during the work day. The adjustments address these concerns without
negatively affecting residential parking.
Beginning on
Monday, June 24, these Phase 1 interim changes take effect:
- Lower the 24-Hour Resident
Guest Pass rate from $6 to $3
- Adjust the rate change
timeframe from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. (at both meters and mobile pay zones)
- Lower mobile pay only (side
street) parking rates from $2/hour to $1/hour from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in
permit zones SNA, SNB and SNE
- Reduce Goodale Street meter
rates to $1/hour and remove time limit restriction
- Enhance the already successful
off-street retail validation program with a new program through the
ParkColumbus app, in partnership with the Short North Alliance
Based on
community feedback, these additional Phase 2 changes may be implemented in late
summer (tentative, pending results of occupancy and transaction data):
- Increase the number of guest
permits available to residents from 1 to 2
- Allow visitors to extend time
in mobile pay (side street) zones for up to 6 hours
