City of Columbus to Launch Innovative Curbside Management Program
With Increase in Curbside Deliveries and Passenger Pickups
and Drop-offs, America's Smart City Partners with curbFlow to Manage Congestion
and Increase Safety, Sustainability and Productivity
Columbus, OH –
Today, the City of Columbus announced a new curbside management program to
address the growing demand for curb space for deliveries, parcels and passenger
pickups and drop-offs. The Division of Parking Services is partnering with
curbFlow, a mobility company that coordinates commercial operator pickup and
drop-off activity to available curb space in real time. The 12-month pilot
program will begin Nov. 18 at 9 locations Downtown and along the North High
Street corridor where commercial loading and on-demand pickups and drop-offs
often lead to dangerous double parking that blocks crosswalks, and travel, bike
and bus lanes.
“We are
dedicated to being responsive and to providing mobility options that add to the
quality of life for our residents and visitors,” said Jennifer L. Gallagher,
Director of the Department of Public Service. “With increasing demand for curb
space due to the growth in e-commerce, freight and on-demand deliveries and
ride hailing, this pilot program with curbFlow brings an innovative data-driven
approach to managing congestion. It will also make our streets safer and air
cleaner for pedestrians, bicyclists, and drivers.”
“Columbus has
been at the forefront of identifying innovative solutions to address the
challenges of our evolving transportation ecosystem, and we’re excited to
partner with the city and community to manage curb space in a way that makes
them safer, more productive and efficient for merchants, operators, bikers and
pedestrians,” said Ali Vahabzadeh, Founder and CEO at curbFlow.

Management Zones (“LMZs”) will be clearly marked and used by both commercial
vehicles and private vehicles operating in a commercial manner, such as for
