This afternoon, Columbus City Council President Shannon G. Hardin will
provide testimony in support of HB 285, Establish Driver's License
Reinstatement Fee Debt Reduction Program. The legislation is pending before the
Local Government, Public Safety and Veteran Affairs Committee in the Ohio
Senate.
"I believe HB 285 takes a strong step to level the
transportation barrier and helps to pave the way to self-sufficiency,"
said President Hardin. "This legislation would open up the door for folks
to live better lives, with access to jobs, education and healthcare
options."
Over one million Ohioans have suspended driver's licenses, often
relating to non-driving offenses, which can keep folks off the road and out of
good-paying jobs. During a six-month pilot program in 2019, almost 77,000
Ohioans utilized the license reinstatement fee amnesty program.
