City of Columbus to Begin 2020 Resurfacing Program with 102 Streets
Funding of almost $13.6 million is approved to repave
and repair neighborhood roads
Streets in neighborhoods all around the city will be
resurfaced this year as the City of Columbus begins the first phase of its
annual repaving program.
Resurfacing – 2020 Project 1 will repair and resurface 102
streets and construct 486 Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) curb ramps along
these streets.
On Monday, City Council authorized a contract with Strawser
Paving for nearly $13.6 million in capital improvement funds for the first
round of the 2020 resurfacing program. The work will include milling existing
pavement, overlaying with new asphalt concrete and completing minor curb
replacement. Full depth pavement repairs will be made on streets where needed. Curb
and sidewalk will also be replaced for installation of the ADA ramps.
“Neighborhoods throughout Columbus will benefit from this investment
in resurfacing their streets and improving equitable access to employment,
education, health and other community services,” said Public Service Director
Jennifer L. Gallagher. “These core infrastructure upgrades will create safer
neighborhood streets all around our city.”
“Neighborhood infrastructure improvements that enhance
access and safety continue to be a priority to improve quality of life for all
residents,” said Shayla Favor, chair of City Council’s Public Service and
Transportation Committee. “By continuing to invest in transportation projects,
we are improving mobility in our neighborhoods.”
