Department Operational Changes due to COVID-19

Due to the ongoing developments related to COVID-19 the Department of Public Service is making the following changes:

  • The city has resumed its annual residential street sweeping program. The program was suspended during the coronavirus stay-at-home order to ensure on-street parking availability for residents.

Please note: This includes resuming street sweeping in areas posted with no parking restrictions during street sweeping dates and times. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, vehicles will not be ticketed or towed at this time in posted areas if they are not moved off-street. Residents are still encouraged to not park vehicles on the street during the posted prohibited times for safety and effective sweeping.

The Department of Public Service will re-evaluate this suspended enforcement at a later date.

Hours of operation have changed. Our hours of operation are as follows:

    • In Person: Monday through Friday, 10am-5pm
    • By Phone: Monday through Friday, 10am-5pm

Please call 844-565-1295 to verify our hours before you visit.

On July 6, Parking Services resumed parking ticket hearing appeals and issuing fine accumulations, notices and collections for unpaid tickets. To practice safe social distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Parking Services will offer 2 options for hearings with a hearing officer to contest parking tickets:

    • A phone hearing
    • A web-based hearing using WebEx software

To pay a parking ticket online and get more information on the three hearing options for appealing a ticket, click here: https://www.columbus.gov/publicservice/parking/Parking-Services-Home/

Effective March 1, the City of Columbus will resume enforcement on inoperable, unsafe or abandoned vehicles not moved on city streets for more than three consecutive days.

Additionally, the city will resume enforcement on March 1 for failing to register or for displaying expired license plates for registrations that expired in 2019 or earlier.

Vehicle owners will not be ticketed for registrations that expired in 2020. The city is adhering to action taken by the Ohio Bureau Motor of Vehicles to automatically extend until July 1, 2021, vehicle registration with an expiration date between March 9, 2020, and April 1, 2021
