City Division of Power Announces Available Funding for Electric Bill Payment Assistance

The City of Columbus’ Division of Power today announced that roughly $300,000 in funding is available for the Pandemic Payment Relief program. The program offers a credit up to $500 to customers of the Division of Power who are having difficulty paying their electric bills or are at the point of disconnection.
“We know that electricity is critical to the health and well-being of our residents,” said Mayor Andrew J. Ginther. “We’re committed to responding to their needs by taking this additional step to provide payment relief to Division of Power customers during this uncertain time.”
The pilot Power Payment Relief program began in 2018 to assist low-income customers. In 2020, the program has been expanded to also help those affected by the Covid19 pandemic, both residential and commercial customers, until further notice.
“If you need help paying bills, the Pandemic Payment Relief program can help,” said Patti Austin, division administrator. “This program is designed to help those who can’t pay their electric bills due to unemployment or economic hardship caused by COVID-19 and other factors.”
The Pandemic Payment Relief Program offers a one-time (per year) credit of up to $500 to go towards an eligible City of Columbus electric bill. For more information on program eligibility, you can apply online or call customer service at 614-645-8276.Funds will be issued on a first come, first served basis to qualified customers who receive their electric bill from the City of Columbus Division of Power utility.
