City of Columbus Will Continue 2020 Resurfacing Program on 93 Streets
Funding of $10.87 million is approved to repave and
repair neighborhood roads
Nearly 100 more streets in neighborhoods around the city are
scheduled for resurfacing as the City of Columbus funds another phase of its
annual repaving program.
Resurfacing – 2020 Project 2 will repair and resurface 93
streets in Columbus neighborhoods and construct 330 Americans with Disabilities
Act (ADA) curb ramps along these streets. Curb and ramp work is expected to
begin before this construction season ends, and then it will resume and paving
be completed when weather permits in the spring.
City Council authorized a contract on Monday with Decker
Construction Co. for $10.87 million in capital improvement funds for the 2020 Project
2 resurfacing. The contract also includes some intersection improvements and Urban
Infrastructure Recovery Fund neighborhood projects for resurfacing, sidewalk
improvements and traffic calming.
“I am especially pleased that the city has the ability to
proceed with this next package of street resurfacing projects during a
challenging year,” said Jennifer L. Gallagher, Director of the Department of
Public Service. “Our neighborhoods and residents are better served by this
infrastructure investment to enhance the condition, function and safety of their
streets.”
"We
are focused on mobility, safety and keeping the people of Columbus
moving," said Councilmember Shayla Favor, chair of the Public Service and
Transportation Committee. "We will continue to invest in the
infrastructure of the City, and resurfacing is just one aspect of that
program."
