Council President Hardin Reacts to Overwhelming Support of Civilian Review Board
[Columbus, OH] – The following statement can be attributed in full, or in part, to Council President Shannon G. Hardin:
"As we wait for national results, we know that Columbus voters spoke loudly and clearly – they are ready for reform within the Division of Police. Issue 2 puts more power in the hands of residents to hold our police accountable for misconduct. Furthermore, this mandate gives the Mayor’s administration a strong hand to negotiate a new labor contract with the police union.
"This vote for accountability is only part of a bigger effort to reimagine public safety in Columbus, from changing the recruitment and testing process to ensuring we have the right form of emergency response to address mental health, homelessness, and addiction in Columbus."
