During the summer, Columbus City Council passed a legislative package to reform the Columbus Division of Police and announced that the 2021 Budget would allow longer-term reforms to be discussed, enacted, and advanced.
With the passage of issue 2, Columbus City Council members will announce their timeline, priorities, and values as they engage with residents and stakeholders during the budget process.
“The process to Reimagine Public Safety is a commitment for the long-term, and we need residents engaged in this essential conversation,” said Council President Shannon G. Hardin. “We have three priorities in Reimagining Safety: alternative crisis response, investing in violence prevention, and investing in a better, more accountable division. Resident voices are critical to shape these investments and create a safer city."
Media that logs in via the link will have the opportunity to ask questions using the “raise hand” function. Those who call in will not be able to ask questions.
The event will be available for livestream on the Council’s Facebook Page and the Columbus City Council YouTube Page.
