Statement from Council on the Death of Casey Goodson Jr.
[Columbus, OH] – The following statement regarding the recent death of Casey Goodson Jr. can be attributed in full, or in part, to Columbus City Council:
"It is heartbreaking to hear the news that Casey Goodson Jr. was shot by a Franklin County Sheriff’s deputy over the weekend and died. While the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is not a part of City government and we must wait for the results of the investigation, this loss of life weighs heavy upon us.
"Our call for Reimagining Safety in Columbus is not just about policy and budgets, but also about addressing the devastating impacts of violence that disproportionately affects black and brown families. We invite our residents to stay engaged in the work ahead as Council listens, learns, and advances reforms in policing in our community. The Goodson family is in our prayers.”
