Ziegler Ave Area Waterline Improvements

This project consists of 13,922 lineal feet of 6”, 8”, and 12” ductile iron water main. The existing water mains being replaced range from 62 to 73 years in age and are cast iron. Fire hydrant replacement and customer water service transfers are also part of this project.

The proposed water main installations are within the existing right-of-ways in the Far South neighborhood (view map(PDF, 365KB)). This work will also include restoration of bedding and compacted granular material or control density fill followed by full depth pavement replacement along the trench. The project limits include no sensitive environmental resources. For some of the waterlines, a trench will be dug within the existing road right-of-ways adjacent to the existing mains to be replaced. The new mains will be installed beneath the edge of the pavement or under existing pavement, depending upon the location of the existing main. Trench width will be about 3 feet for 6, 8, and 12-inch pipe. Trench depth will allow for at least 4-feet, and up to 10-feet of cover. Once installed, the new mains will be pressure tested, disinfected, and reconnected to the up and downstream mains. The existing main will be abandoned in place.

Prior to construction, the Neighborhood Liaisons will be contacted and informed of the project. Further community outreach may result though the Neighborhood Liaison Program. Notification letters will also be mailed out in advance to residents located near the project area. These letters will provide detailed information regarding the project and important contact numbers.

Division of Water plans to fund this project with a below market-rate loan through the Ohio EPA’s Water Supply Revolving Loan Account (WSRLA) Program. Prior to granting this loan, the Ohio EPA required a detailed submittal from the Division of Water to determine the project’s eligibility for the program.

The Ohio EPA has completed a Limited Environmental Review (LER) for this project. View the letter(PDF, 960KB) of "Notice of Issuance of a Limited Environmental Review and Final Finding of No Significant Impact to All Interested Citizens, Organizations and Government Agencies."
