WHAT:

On Tuesday, May 17th, 2022, the Columbus Building and Construction Trades Council will welcome new cohorts in both the Building Futures and Driving Futures program, in partnership with Columbus City Council, the Columbus Urban League, and Franklin County Job and Family Services. Both programs are important workforce development initiatives that expand the pipeline to middle class employment into the building trades or commercial driving, with a focus on historically underrepresented populations. Graduates are given the opportunity to enter directly into union apprenticeship programs that will lead to a career with great union wages, healthcare and retirement benefits.

Columbus City Council’s $400,000 investment in the Building Futures and Driving Futures is one part of a larger commitment to empower and uplift Columbus workers through Council’s Workforce Development Committee.

“The participants of both the Building Futures and Driving Futures programs will be able to get hands-on experiences that will translate directly into jobs with union employers.” said Workforce Development Chair Rob Dorans. “Both programs fill critically needed positions in Central Ohio’s construction industry and create true economic mobility for graduates.”

This event will recognize the new cohorts and celebrate them as they embark on their new career journey.
