Columbus Commons Receives Contribution from AT&T Foundation for
Shakespeare in the Park

Goal is to Engage Columbus City School in Shakespeare Performances

Thanks to a contribution from the AT&T Foundation, Columbus Commons will engage Columbus City School High School Students to be involved in its 2013 season of Shakespeare in the Park, performed by The Actors’ Theatre of Columbus. Students have the opportunity to be involved in many aspects of the performances from building sets and handling production to watching a free show under the starry skies with classmates.

The contribution targets City of Columbus School Districts, grades 9 through 12, and provides support for integrating an out-of-classroom educational experience into their learning experience. The 2103 schedule will be announced in the spring, but two productions of Shakespeare’s work are expected.

“Great community partners help us continue to deliver new and exciting free programming. We are very grateful to the AT&T Foundation for this contribution, linking Shakespeare’s most popular performances with our youngest and brightest,” said Guy Worley, President/CEO of the Columbus Downtown Development Corporation and Capitol South.

“We are proud to support this unique opportunity to provide an interactive experience for our local high school students,” said David Kandel, Director of External Affairs at AT&T Ohio.

“Columbus Commons brings the entire community together in the heart of our downtown,” said Council President Andrew J. Ginther.  “The setting will provide the perfect backdrop to showcase the some of the most talented students studying arts and theater in Columbus City Schools.”

“We are so excited to tap into a new audience for our performances at Columbus Commons next year – what a great asset this will be for students,” said John S. Kuhn of The Actors’ Theatre of Columbus.
