Worldwide Forensics
Leader Proposes Global Headquarters in Columbus
Mayor
Michael Coleman tonight will ask City Council to approve legislation for
economic incentives for SEA, Ltd., a worldwide leader in forensic research,
testing and analysis. If the legislation is approved, the company plans to
build its new global corporate headquarters in Columbus, creating 30 new
full-time permanent positions and retain 96 full-time positions.
“This
great company strengthens our reputation as the home of smart, innovative
businesses that create jobs for our residents and solutions to some of our
world’s problems,” Mayor Coleman said. “Thanks to businesses like SEA, Columbus
continues to be a national hub for research, education and technology.”
The new
facility will be between 90,000 and 100,000 square feet and will include
state-of-the-art scientific research and development. SEA plans to invest $9.4
million at the site with $9 million toward building construction and $400,000
in machinery, equipment, furniture and fixtures. The city recommends a 75
percent, 10-year enterprise zone agreement on real property improvements.
“Enterprise
zone agreements encourage companies like SEA, Ltd., to invest in substantial
capital improvements while creating or retaining jobs in Columbus,” said
Councilmember Zach M. Klein, chair of the Development Committee. “Their
investment will leverage an increase in jobs in construction and related
industries.”
SEA’s core
disciplines include electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil
engineering, fire investigation, industrial hygiene and environmental analysis.
The company has 10 offices throughout the United States, with a fulltime staff
of engineers, investigators and chemists who are court-qualified experts in
their respective fields.
