25 Columbus Neighborhoods Selected for Capital Improvement Projects
Also, Spectrum Commercial Coating Deal Would Create 30 New Jobs
The Columbus Urban Infrastructure Recovery Fund program was created
more than 20 years ago by then-Councilmember Michael B. Coleman for
neighborhood-based capital improvement projects. Tonight, Mayor Coleman is
asking City Council to approve legislation that will fund 44 projects totaling
more than $6.8 million in 25 central city neighborhoods.
“Our neighborhoods are the lifeblood of our city, and Columbus is
thriving because we’ve never stopped investing in them,” Mayor Coleman said.
“New sidewalks, streetlights and bike paths in these neighborhoods will
continue to lift the quality of life for our residents.”
The city received 86 proposals, which were selected with approval from area commissions. They include:
• Sidewalks on the
east side of Grandview Avenue between 5th Avenue and King Avenue
• Construct concrete
sidewalks on the east side of Brentnell Avenue from Argyle to Mock Road
• Repave Smith Road
from Lockbourne to Fairwood and construct sidewalks
• Complete
construction of the last leg of the Olentangy Trail between Harrison Park and the trail, and the Goodale Street/315 Bike Bridge and Rails to Trails connector
• Add street lights on
McCutcheon from Stelzer to Sunbury
• Construct concrete
sidewalks on Bar Harbor from Mock Road to Delavan

“This program puts residents in charge of deciding how to best meet the
infrastructure improvement needs in their neighborhood,” said Councilmember
Zach M. Klein. “Working together with
City Hall, community leaders and the UIRF program are building a safer,
stronger Columbus.”
In other Council business, Mayor Coleman is also asking Council to
approve legislation for a 25 percent, five-year jobs growth Incentive agreement
with Spectrum Commercial Coatings, LLC.
Spectrum is a full service commercial and industrial coating contractor
that plans to create 30 new full-time jobs.
