Fix-up Grants Available for Hilltop Residents
Hilltop residents will be able to make exterior repairs to
their property using funds from the City’s Hilltop Home Repair Program. Residents will be able to receive up to
$20,000 from about $500,000 that will be allocated toward the program, pending
City Council’s approval.
“The Hilltop Home
Repair Program is an important component of our neighborhood development
efforts throughout the city,” said Mayor Michael B. Coleman. “This program will
allow our Hilltop residents to not only repair their homes, but help increase
the pride and care for the neighborhood and surrounding community.”
The Department of Development, Housing Division will partner
with Homes on the Hill CDC (HOTH), a non-profit community development
corporation, to market the program,
identify potential grant recipients and coordinate the application process with
the applicants.
“Helping residents complete home repairs is a key to
improving our neighborhoods,” said Councilmember Zach M. Klein, chair of the
Development Committee. “This very
targeted approach will allow us to have a greater impact in an area of critical
need.”
The Hilltop Home Repair Program assists homeowners with
exterior repairs while facilitating pride and responsible ownership within the
following targeted area: N: Railroad
Tracks to the north, S: parcels located to the immediate south of Sullivant
Ave., E: Fairmont Ave. to Lechner to the east, parcels located to the E. of
Lechner to W. Broad to Wheatland Ave., and W: parcels located to the immediate
west of S. Hague Ave.
Council will also consider a program that will
provide assistance for eligible veterans throughout the city. The Better Municipal Care for
Veterans Home Fund would increase funding up to $20,000 for home improvements
to veterans or homeowners with an eligible veteran who permanently resides in their household. The program currently offers
$15,000.
