Columbus, Ohio – Government officials joined together with
the Franklinton community to break ground on Orange Barrel Media’s headquarters

Hartford Avenue in Franklinton. Orange Barrel’s commitment follows on Mayor
Coleman’s and Council President Ginther’s bold plan to increase public and
private investment in the area.

Council President Ginther congratulates Orange Barrel Media at today’s ground- breaking with, from left, State Rep. Michael Stinziano, Mayor Michael Coleman, Orange Barrel President Peter Scantland, and Franklinton Board of Trade Executive Director Trent Smith. |
“I want to thank Orange Barrel Media for its leadership in
the revitalization of our city’s first neighborhood,” Mayor Coleman said.
“Orange Barrel’s investment will reverberate throughout Franklin in the form of
jobs, opportunity and vitality.”
The plan includes the construction of a 20,000 square foot
glass building and the renovation of two existing buildings totaling an
additional 7,000 square feet of space. Also included are site and landscaping
improvements to a currently abandoned five-acre site bordered by Souder Avenue,
McKinley Avenue and the confluence of the Scioto and Olentangy Rivers. The
centerpiece of the glass building is the integration of three existing 50-foot
tall, 30-foot diameter concrete silos into the back half of the building. The
plan, developed by noted Columbus architect George Acock, is seeking LEED certification,
and includes a large solar installation that will generate energy for the site.
Following today’s groundbreaking, the first stage of the
construction includes pouring three 160’ tall piers to support a landmark
signage structure showcasing OBM’s innovative advertising work. The towers will
rise approximately 20’ per week, culminating with a topping out in December of
this year. Simultaneously, the concrete frame of the building will be
cast-in-place, finishing in a similar time period. The glass curtain-wall
system will be installed, and interior work will commence in early 2014, with
an expected completion and occupancy of the building in March 2014.
“Orange Barrel Media is a dynamic, exciting, and creative
company that is helping to redefine the outdoor advertising industry in
Columbus,” said Council President Ginther.
“Their new footprint in Franklinton will accelerate the momentum of
economic development in the area and lead to even more growth in that
neighborhood’s near future.”
State Rep. Michael Stinziano was very pleased that Orange
Barrel Media's headquarters were moving to Franklinton.
"This investment is welcome news to Franklinton,"
said Rep. Stinziano. "It will bring more jobs and opportunities to the
people of this great neighborhood."
