Mayor, Council, Community Reopen Renovated Milo-Grogan Recreation Center

Mayor Michael B. Coleman, City Councilmember Zach M. Klein and Milo-Grogan community residents today dedicated the newly renovated Milo-Grogan Recreation Center. Originally built in 1976, the Milo-Grogan center was, at 9,500 square feet, the city’s smallest recreation center. The City of Columbus invested $3.5 million on renovations that expand the center to 16,000 square feet.

“This is now a recreation center that can meet the needs of the residents of the wonderful Milo-Grogan community,” Mayor Coleman said. “It is thanks to the wisdom of our voters and the fiscally responsible practices of our administration that we are able to make these investments.”

Renovations include improvements to the interior of the center, a new gymnasium, an art room, dance studio, auditorium, fitness room and game room. Also included are a new parking lot and air conditioning. The renovations were designed by Moody Nolan Architects and constructed by RW Setterlin Building Company.

“Our recreation centers play an important role in building strong, healthy communities,” said Councilmember Klein.  “The improved Milo-Grogan center will make a positive impact on the lives of Columbus families for years to come.”

The renovations were funded through lower capital improvement interest rates made possible by the most recent City of Columbus bond package approved by city voters in November of 2008. A new proposed bond package is on this year’s ballot Nov. 5.
