Kenneth A. Coontz

Support Services Administrator Kenneth A. Coontz has decades of experience in law enforcement and local government. He started his career in public safety in 1993 with the Mansfield Division of Police. Coontz rose through the ranks ultimately becoming Chief of Police for the division from 2013 to 2019. Coontz also served as both Deputy Project Director and Director for the METRICH Enforcement Unit, a multi-county drug task force focused on covert drug operations, vice crimes, internal affairs, and public corruption. In 2019, Coontz was named Director of Human Resources for the City of Mansfield before joining the Columbus Department of Public Safety in 2021. 

Coontz graduated from Mt. Vernon Nazarene University in Ohio where he obtained his Master of Business Administration (MBA). Additionally, Coontz attended Police Executive Leadership College (PELC) where he studied leadership, ethics, professional development, and organizational change. Coontz has spent more than 2,200 hours in Advanced Law Enforcement Specialized Training. He is currently certified by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA). 

A proud veteran, Coontz served two years in the United States Army as Combat Medic/Medical Specialist. 

Coontz has been recognized for his hard work and dedication over the years. He’s received numerous awards and acknowledgments including a military service award, two “Top Cop” awards, a VFW Life-Saving award, and an NAACP Community Award.
