Why? In 2014, 41% of total U.S. energy consumption was consumed in residential and commercial buildings1. Energy efficiency remains one of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to cut energy use. In addition, electricity rates have continued to rise and are projected to increase 18% overall between 2013-20402.

A recent study found that commercial buildings that regularly benchmarked their energy performance in Energy Star Portfolio Manager TM  tool cut their energy bills by seven percent over three years3.

Imagine if Columbus' largest building's owners and managers joined together to track and report energy usage.  We could save millions of dollars in wasted energy costs, and hedge against rising costs in the future. Those dollars could instead be used to grow the local economy and create jobs in the burgeoning energy efficiency sector.
