Councilmember Shannon G. Hardin, chair of the Public Service & Transportation Committee, was proud to sponsor an ordinance Monday night that was passed by City Council to rehabilitate 35 miles of alleys in Columbus. When the weather permits, crews will begin the work to improve the drainage and level the services on a list of alleys that is still being complied by the Public Service Department. In 2014, crews rehabbed about 30 miles of alleys.
"Reconstructed alleys improve home values and promote safer neighborhoods," said Councilmember Hardin. "Since 2009, the City of Columbus has rehabbed nearly 200 miles of alleys all around the community."
Alleys are checked annually to determine whether they are in need of repairs.
