Artist Statement - Terri Maloney-Houston
“In 2002 I was able to attend a mosaics workshop in
Barcelona, Spain. The experience included visits to many fantastic
architectural works by Antoni Gaudi. My project draws inspiration from Gaudi’s
fluid, colorful architecture. Even though they are human-scale, Gaudi’s
buildings look like they should be inhabited by fairies or other fantasy
creatures.”
Meet the Tree
The
Catalpa tree, also known as a Catawba (Catalpa Speciosa) can grow to be as tall
as 60 feet, but it is not rare to find them stretching to 100 feet. The best
way to identify this tree is by its leaves. These huge heart-shaped leaves are
8-12 inches long. If you are lucky enough to see this tree in May-June, you
will find it covered in large white flowers painted with purple and yellow on
the inside. GPS: 39.965958,
