A local company that has already committed to creating more than 100 jobs in the past few years would expand its operations and create another 350 additional jobs pending approval of an economic development proposal on Columbus City Council’s agenda. Mayor Michael B. Coleman is asking City Council to approve legislation for ContactUS, LLC, Daifuku America Corporation and Exel Inc. Combined, the three proposals would create approximately 550 new jobs in Columbus.

“Columbus is growing and thriving in part because of our great businesses,” Mayor Coleman said. “I salute ContactUS, Exel and Daifuku America for investing in our city and creating new jobs for our residents.”

  • Columbus is proposing a 25-percent, 5-year jobs growth incentive agreement for ContactUS, LLC, to expand its client support operations at 3700 Fishinger Blvd. ContactUS will invest approximately $4 million in building acquisition and improvements and create approximately 350 new full-time permanent positions with an annual payroll of more than $10 million.
  • The city is also proposing to enter into a 25-percent, 5-year jobs growth incentive agreement with Daifuku America Corporation. Daifuku America Corporation will invest approximately $3 million to improve and expand facilities, creating 80 new full-time positions and retaining 99 positions. The company will renovate approximately 18,200 square feet of office space within the facility located at 6700 Tussing Rd. The investment is contingent upon local and state approvals, to be finalized next month.
  • The Department of Development is proposing to enter into a 50-percent, 4-year Downtown office incentive with Exel Freight Connect Inc. and Excel Inc.  Exel Inc. is proposing to lease approximately 26,000 square feet of office space located at 226 N. 5th Street, Suite 400 to create a centralized brokerage operation near their corporate office in Columbus. Exel Freight Connect Inc. will invest approximately $524,000 related to the acquisition of furniture and fixtures, stand-alone computers, and improvements to the existing facility. Exel Freight Connect will create 117 new full-time permanent positions with an associated annual payroll of more than $7 million.

“These companies are investing not only in our local workforce but also in the acquisition and renovation of property,” said Zach M. Klein, chair of the Development Committee. “That means even more opportunities to grow the Columbus economy.”
