COLUMBUS—The Create Columbus Commission, a board of young
professionals that serves as the foremost thought leader on YP interests and
priorities in Columbus, is excited to announce the kickoff of the 2014 Create
Columbus Grants Program to support initiatives by and for young professionals
that help make Columbus the best place in the nation to live, work, and raise a
family.
As an organization of more than thirty professionals
dedicated to identifying and implementing strategies and tactics to help
Columbus attract and retain young and talented individuals, the Create Columbus
Commission is making this grant opportunity available to organizations and
groups actively seeking to enhance the YP experience in Columbus.
“The Create Columbus Commission Grant Program is designed to
support innovative thinking by some of the city's most talented minds,” said
Create Columbus Commission Chair Kevin Tyler. “We are excited to elevate the
influence of young professionals and help create a Columbus that is successful
for everyone.”
In 2013, the Create Columbus Grants Program distributed more
than $60,000 across eight community initiatives that enhance the YP experience
in Columbus. All eight projects are currently underway and are creating a
lasting impact on the vibrancy of the YP experience in Columbus.
"The first round of the Create Columbus Grants program
was wildly successful,” said Mayor Michael B. Coleman. “Once again, these
grants will give young professionals in our community the unique opportunity to
shape the Columbus in which they want to live, work, and play.”
In 2014, the Create Columbus Commission expects to
distribute $80,000 in grants. Financial support for the grants program is
provided by the City of Columbus.
“Create Columbus Grant recipients have made a positive and
lasting impact in neighborhoods across our community,” said Columbus City
Council President Andrew J. Ginther. “I encourage young professionals to apply
for the next round of grants and turn their creative ideas into action.”
The goals of the Create Columbus Grants Program are to:
- Encourage and support residents to launch innovative,
community-based initiatives with a specific young professionals component;
- Provide strategic financial support for one-time costs for
events, initiatives or programs that impact young professionals;
- Improve the young professional experience in the areas of
arts, sports and entertainment, careers, neighborhoods, and transportation.
