Economic Development Proposals Approved by Council Could Create 1,029 Jobs

Columbus City Council has approved legislation at its last two meetings for eight companies that plan to create 1,029 jobs in Columbus, including Alliance Data Systems, Inc., which will create 700 new jobs. The company plans to invest approximately $80.5 million, including the construction of a three-building campus off of McCutcheon Road to house corporate associates of the company’s Alliance Data Retail Services business. The new full-time permanent positions will yield an annual payroll of approximately $52.5 million while maintaining an estimated annual payroll of $124.4 million with retained employees. The city is proposing a job creation tax credit agreement of 65 percent for 10 years.  

“We continue to fight for every job, which is one reason Columbus is one of the best cities for economic opportunity in the nation,” Mayor Coleman said. “I thank all of these innovative businesses for their commitment to the City of Columbus.”

“These companies have national reputations for being industry leaders,” said Councilmember Michelle M. Mills, chair of the Development Committee. “All of Columbus benefits when they succeed and draw attention to the great things happening in our city.”


Council also approved legislation that would lead to 55 new jobs from nationally renowned Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams. Jeni’s plans to relocate its corporate offices to Downtown. The city is proposing a 50 percent, five-year downtown office incentive. 

Cover My Meds, LLC, plans to relocate and expand its medical technology business by creating 111 new jobs and retaining 60 in downtown Columbus. The city is proposing a five-year, 50 percent downtown office incentive.  

ComResource, which provides professional services and infrastructure support to help their clients plan, design, implement, manage, and operate IT solutions, plans to expand its operations by creating 50 new full-time permanent positions while retaining 125 full-time jobs. The city is proposing a jobs growth incentive of 25 percent for five years.

Clarus Partners, LLC,& Clarus Solutions, LLC, will create 33 new full-time positions and retain 39 full-time positions. The city is proposing an enterprise zone tax abatement of 75 percent for 10 years.

Universal Fabricating & Construction Services, Inc., will create 30 new full-time permanent positions.  Universal Fabricating & Construction Services, Inc. is proposing to expand operations at their current 112,400-square-foot facility located at 1241 McKinley Ave. The city is offering a 25 percent-five year jobs growth incentive to Universal Fabricating & Construction Services, Inc., and OneSource Employee Management.     

Christopher Hamrick, doing business as Basecraft, will create 30 new full-time jobs and retain six positions. The city is offering Basecraft a 50 percent, three-year Downtown office incentive to expand its operations in downtown. 

Columbus-based coffee company The Crimson Cup, LLC, plans to expand its manufacturing operation and will create 20 new full-time permanent positions and retain 17 full-time jobs. Crimson Cup roasts, manufactures and distributes specialty coffee. Columbus is offering The Crimson Cup a 25 percent, five-year jobs growth incentive.
